The winner of the second MOMENTUM Commission ($5,000), funded by Cinque Artist Management and intended for early-career artists, is the Melbourne-based composer, pianist and event producer Zinia Chan, known for her passion and dedication in promoting collaborations between Australasian performers and composers. Chan has worked in theatre, film and contemporary music, and recently completed her Graduate Diploma in Music (Composition) under Brenton Broadstock and Christine McCombe at the University of Melbourne.
The guidelines for this opportunity included a requirement for the finished work to include elements of cultural diversity, resulting in a broad range of excellent proposals. Zinia Chan's winning proposal includes collaborating with young Indigenous storytellers from Digi Youth Arts, didjeribone guru Tjupurru and string players of DeepBlue. The panel consisted of Daniel Rojas, Annette Tesoriero, Aaron Wyatt and Kiri Zakinthinos, with moderator Paul Mason.
