The golden age - Clive Douglas, composer, conductor
Lynne Gavin Douglas (Wirripang, 2011; 51 pages+CD)
Composer and conductor Clive Douglas (1903-1977)
occupied a crucial position for thirty years as a staff conductor
for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. He championed the
music of his fellow Australian composers and was himself among
the first to integrate Indigenous Australian music with
traditional Western music in a series of orchestral works and
operas.
This new release by Wirripang, written by Douglas's daughter
Lynne Gavin Douglas, includes an accompanying CD with digitally
remastered recordings of Douglas's compositions
Carwoola (1939),
Kaditcha, Corroboree (1938) and
Namatjira (1956).
