The Australian Chamber Orchestra collected the award for Best Classical Concert Presentation for their program ‘Revolution’ at the 2007 Helpmann Awards (www.helpmannawards.com.au), which were held 6 August in Sydney. In its seventh year, the Helpmann Awards celebrate artistic excellence and achievement in Australia’s performing arts communities.
Timothy Constable is the winner of the 2007 MCA/Freedman Fellowship for Classical Music. A freelance percussionist, composer and electronica producer, Timothy regularly performs with the Sydney Symphony, Sonic Art Ensemble, Coda and Diode, and has collaborated with renowned musicians across the world. He is currently Assistant Artistic Director of Synergy Percussion.
Gondwana Voices – celebrating its 10 th anniversary year – is currently traveling in France as guests of the acclaimed Polyfollia Festival in Normandy. Their international tour began in Canada with performances at the Festival 500 in Newfoundland. Before returning home they will visit London to perform with the BBC Symphony in the BBC Proms.
Melbourne-based ensemble re-sound has released its 4th CD, quiet on the bridge. The CD combines a range of contemporary styles and approaches, including electronic and electroacoustic music, contemporary chamber and interactive computer music, indeterminate (open) works and improvisation. Later this month re-sound will perform in John Cage's Music Circus as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival, and appear at the National Gallery of Victoria as part of the Art After Dark Series. The Splinter Orchestra has recently launched a new CD on the Splitrec label (www.splitrec.com). Late last year the ensemble – made up of strings, horns, percussion, electronic and homemade instruments – recorded a new set of improvisations and procedural compositions at studio 301 in Sydney, recorded by Richard Belkner.
