Event Details

As part of Powerhouse Museum's This is a Voice exhibition, the Voicings are live demonstrations of the human voice in all its diversity as a tool of expression and communication. Stop by to experience the power, beauty and incredible abilities that the voice can hold.

Josephine Truman is a singer, composer and performer whose main focus is the voice and its ultimate potentials. She began improvising with the voice and piano in early childhood and went on to study classical music. Leaving school Jo studied Fine Arts at Hornsby Technical College and COFA and simultaneously worked as a vocal and keyboard improviser, developing a repertoire of extended and micro-tonal vocal techniques. She collaborated with Sydney based improvisers. In 1993 Jo  received a Special Purpose Award and an International Study grant from the Music Board from the Australia Council to continue her study and performance of improvisation in England and Holland, where she performed in festivals and with many leading musicians in the improvised and New Music worlds. Her solo CD Sdreamings was commissioned by Staalplaat records and received a 4-star review by John Shand in The Sydney Morning Herald.

Entry: FREE with museum entry.
