Score
Fantasia No. I : for solo viola / Elizabeth Younan.
Library shelf no. 787.3/YOU 2 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
This viola solo is titled Fantasia due to the nature of its free and improvisatory construction. The manipulation of small musical cells and their sudden juxtapositions form the modus operandi of this work.
N.B. Small liberties in time to accurately
reach double stops may be exercised. These passages
are to be played as close to the speed
indicated without compromising pitches or quality of
tone. This struggle forms the aesthetic
of the work.
Articulation:
An accent
indicates a sharp attack. A tenuto indicates a push into the
note, to be held for an infinitesimal
moment longer than notated.
